How do I add a recipe?

Tap + and paste a recipe link, paste from your clipboard, take or choose a photo of a recipe, or scan a Makmak card. New here? Add starter recipes with one tap.

What is Makmak Pro?

Makmak Pro is an optional subscription ($2.99/month or $19.99/year) that adds cloud imports (TikTok, Instagram & YouTube links, saved videos, PDFs, and "Cook this dish" from a photo) and AI cooking help: "Make it primal" to rewrite a recipe for a diet, and talking to your recipes in Ask Makmak to edit or rebuild them. Everything else stays free, and recipes you've already saved are never locked behind Pro.

What is Gather?

Gather is Makmak's calm, no-account community tab: a curated Recipe of the Week and "From the Table," where people share recipes they actually cook. You can submit one of your own recipes (optionally with a photo of your dish) — it's anonymous and reviewed before it appears.

How does "Make it primal" and editing by talking work?

Open any recipe. Tap Make it primal (in the ⋯ menu) to rewrite it carnivore, animal-based, primal, keto, and more. Or open Ask Makmak, type a change like "make it for six" or "rebuild this as an ice cream," and tap Apply. Makmak shows you the full revised recipe to review before anything is saved.

Is my data private?

Your library lives on your device and syncs only through your own iCloud — no Makmak account. Cloud features (imports and AI help) are off until you turn them on, and when used they send only the item or recipe text you choose and keep nothing. The only things stored on our backend are what you explicitly choose to publish — a recipe you submit to Gather, or a recipe you share as a link. See our Privacy Policy.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Manage or cancel anytime in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or in the App Store. Moving to a new device? Tap Restore Purchases in Makmak's Settings or on the upgrade screen. Have an offer code? Settings → Redeem a code.

Can I plan meals and make a grocery list?

Yes. The Plan tab lets you add recipes to each day, and Makmak builds a single, aisle-sorted grocery list from everything you've planned.

The imported recipe looks off — can I fix it?

Yes. Makmak opens a Review screen so you can correct the title, ingredients, steps, time, and servings before saving. You can also just tell Ask Makmak what's wrong (even "this is the wrong dish — rebuild it") and it will revise the whole recipe.

Where are my recipes stored?

On your device, synced through your own iCloud. There is no Makmak account, and your library is never copied to a Makmak server. (See our Privacy Policy for the only exceptions: recipes you choose to submit to Gather or publish as a link.)

How do I back up or move my recipes?

Go to Settings → Export to save your entire library as a portable JSON file.

Does Makmak work offline?

Yes. Your saved library is fully available offline. A connection is only needed to import a recipe or use the cloud features.

Is Makmak free?

Yes — free, with no ads, no trackers, and no data selling. The optional Makmak Pro subscription adds cloud imports and AI cooking help for those who want it.
